Lash extensions are often surrounded by misconceptions and concerns. As a master lash artist with over 11 years of experience, I would like to clarify the considerations regarding lash extensions and their impact on your natural lashes.
Client Responsibilities for Healthy Lash Extensions
Maintaining healthy lash extensions is a shared responsibility between the client and the lash professional. As a client, if you experience any discomfort or itchiness, it is crucial not to attempt to remove the lash extensions yourself, as this can cause significant damage. Instead, please reach out to your lash professional for an evaluation. They will ensure that the extensions are not applied too closely to the skin, check for any potential allergies or infections, and confirm that the lashes are not glued together, which can create discomfort. It is also the client's responsibility to clean their lash extensions at least every third day. A helpful guideline is to wash your lashes when you feel your hair is greasy; this indicates the accumulation of microscopic debris and bacteria along the lash line, which can be detrimental to the health of your lashes. Your lash artist will provide you with detailed instructions on the proper cleaning technique to prevent conditions such as blepharitis and infections. Daily brushing of lash extensions is essential to maintain their appearance. You should report to your lash artist if you notice any crooked or droopy lashes, as this may indicate that the extensions are too long or heavy for your natural lashes, potentially leading to damage. Lash extensions should never feel heavy or droop; ideally, they should not exceed twice the length of your natural lashes. This guideline ensures a healthy weight for your lash extensions and allows your natural lashes to grow and shed at their natural rate, preventing premature shedding and damage to the lash follicles.
Professional Responsibilities of the Lash Artist
As your professional lash extension artist, I adhere to rigorous hygiene standards. All tools are thoroughly cleaned and triple sanitized: first, with antibacterial soap and water; second, by soaking them in a state-regulated Barbicide solution for 10 to 15 minutes; and finally, by placing them in a hospital-grade sterilization box with ultraviolet light for a minimum of 15 minutes. Additionally, it is the LASH TECHNICIANS responsibility to have honed his/her skills through extensive practice, on non-human models, to ensure precision in isolating natural lashes before working on real clients. Mastering "isolation" is the most difficult and widely erroneous issue with Lash Extensions. And it comes from lack of training and lack of skill. This meticulous isolation is essential to prevent the sticking of lashes together, allowing each natural lash to grow and shed at its own rhythm without obstruction. Understanding the products and techniques used in lash extension application is also fundamental to my role as your lash artist, enabling me to secure the extensions properly and minimize premature fallout. Moreover, I closely monitor the condition of your natural lashes, taking note of their health and making necessary adjustments to the length and weight of extensions to prevent any potential damage.
Conclusion
Lash extensions can be safe and enhance your beauty when applied correctly. It is imperative to choose a licensed professional with a deep understanding of lash health and the skills necessary to maintain the integrity of your natural lashes.
